My son and I were so excited to be invited along to do this bear hunt, I had seen it advertised on social media and was intrigued - I had been to the Hatherley Manor Hotel for the Spa and heard great things about the hotel and restaurant too, but I hadn’t ever thought of taking my toddler son there.
From the minute we arrived the staff made us feel welcome and more excited about the bear hunt we were about to do, they asked if we would rather have our afternoon tea before or after the bear hunt as the rain was having a break I thought it was best to do the hunt first.
Upon arrival and booking in, we were given a goody bag, that had;
A blanket to sit on for the Afternoon tea picnicThe “I’m going on a bear hunt” bookColouring in sheets with spaces to write the name of the bears you find on the huntCrayons/colouring pencilsMost importantly – a Map to help with the Bear hunt in the hotel grounds (all outdoors)
We started the hunt without the map, splashing in puddles, exploring the hotel’s grounds. The children were so excited to be running around in mud, the forest and searching for the white painted bear paw prints scattered around, they both brought their own favourite teddy bears to help encourage and remind them we were looking for other teddy bears and their names to note down. We found a few of the teddy bears and then realised we needed to use the map and re start the hunt- which the children were more than happy to do as they were loving the whole experience.
I don’t want to give away too much of the bear hunt, but as you can see from the photos there were the different scenes from the book laid out for the children to explore, touch and experience.
No matter the weather this is a great activity to do with a group or on your own with the children this summer.
Due to the heavy rain the day before and on the day we had our Afternoon Tea in a small function room within the hotel, the picnic blankets were laid out and we sat on the floor just like a picnic outside which was easier with the children and all part of the experience. All the staff we encountered were so attentive and great with the children, they had their balloons and colouring in to keep them busy and then their food, the staff ensured our drinks were kept refreshed and that we were all ok and having a nice time.
Both adults and the children loved our Afternoon Tea picnic and could have happily stayed there all day!
